5 Safe Ways To Remove a Broken Light Bulb

If you want to make your home look beautiful and nice, it is essential to keep every item working and replace things that are having some problems. Lighting is a unique feature that can change the mood of your home and give you visibility at night, which makes it essential for any property.

Having problems with lights is always a complicated process, especially if you are changing bulbs yourself. These five ways to remove a broken light bulb will guide you with simple actions. Remember, before you interact with the bulb, you must always turn off the general power switch.

Use Needle Pliers

A broken light bulb inside a socket is not a simple thing to replace, but with the right elements, you can make the process easier. Using needle pliers, try to get one of the needles between the light bulb base and the socket. The aluminum base will likely bend with the pressure. After this, slowly twist the base to loosen the bulb and keep twisting until it is out.

Duct Tape

Duct tape is very sticky, which will help you get a tighter hold of the bulb’s base as you twist it. Roll up a length of tape into a sticky ball and press it against the remains of the bulb; this will give you or your pliers something to grip so that you can twist more easily.

Use a Potato

This popular yet unconventional method can remove a broken light bulb easily. Grabbing a whole potato, gently stick the broken bulb into the flesh of the potato. With the potato acting as a grip, you can slowly twist to remove the bulb from the socket. Potatoes are soft and will gently cover the base for twisting. If you don’t have potatoes lying around, you can always consider hiring an electrician to avoid breaking or damaging the electric outlet further.

Soap Bar

Similar to a potato, a soap bar will wedge inside the broken base of the lightbulb to make the twisting easier. There are different bar soaps you could use, but you should always choose one with butter or milk in the ingredients because they are softer. Without pushing it too hard, grab the socket to get the bar as close as possible to the bottom and gently twist.

Dry Clay

Using children’s clay is a simple and effective way to change a broken bulb in a socket. With fresh clay, model it to fit the size of the light bulb’s base; after this, let it dry for a few hours. Once the clay is dry, put it inside the base and slowly twist to free the bulb’s base from the socket.
