Off-the-Beaten-Path States You Must Travel To

Traveling is something that everyone must take some time to do, but it’s tricky to know which states you should visit. You could go to the obvious touristy spots like New York City and Los Angeles, but there are so many other off-the-beaten-states you must travel to. The country has much to offer, and it’s all waiting for you! So, get out of the house and discover those little idiosyncrasies that make each state unique.

California

California may seem like a weird addition to this list, but it’s here because when people visit California, they don’t actually see all that the state has to offer. Instead, they visit hot spots like Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and Disneyland. California is one of the biggest states in the country, but people only visit these main spots. If you want to travel to California and see some truly amazing things, venture off the beaten path and take yourself to Yosemite and Joshua Tree National Park.

You cannot find similar sights anywhere else in the country; they’re just the tip of the iceberg. Don’t hesitate to get out there and drive through Big Sur, the PCH, or even take a trip to the redwood forests like Muir Woods. Visiting spots like these will make your California trip one you’ll never forget.

New Mexico

New Mexico is a state that many have forgotten about, even though it has one of the most memorable state flags in America. It’s one of the southwest states that many drive or fly over, but everyone should take a few days to see all that New Mexico has to offer. If you’re a TV fan, you can drive to Albuquerque and visit some sites from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and if you’re more interested in nature, check out some of the beautiful national parks. Some of the best parks and sites you can visit include:

  • The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum
  • White Sans National Park
  • Carlsbad Caverns National Park
  • Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument

Be sure to move New Mexico up to the top of your list so you can explore all that the state has to offer!

Maine

Maine is the country’s easternmost state, located all the way at the tip-top of the New England region. You’ll need to drive through New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and perhaps even New Hampshire and Vermont to get to Maine. It can be a long drive, but it’s worth it. If you go at the right time of the year, like in Autumn, you can see all the changing foliage and beautiful leaf colors. Then, when you get to Maine, you can check out some of the beautiful Lighthouses but don’t forget to also visit the Portland Museum of Art and the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.

Get in your car, on the road, and travel to these wonderful off-the-beaten-path states to experience all they have to offer. America is one of the most geographically and culturally diverse countries in the world, but if you stay in your city and state, you’ll experience very little of that. Take a chance and visit one of these great states for your next vacation.
